What Salt Lake County homes usually need

In Salt Lake City, Millcreek, Holladay, Murray and Cottonwood Heights, most homes are decades old. Kitchens there often have solid-wood cabinets that have been painted before, or original stained cabinetry. Homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, so old painted surfaces need to be handled with lead-safe practices.

Sandy, West Jordan, Taylorsville and West Valley City have a lot of 1980s and 1990s homes, the era of oak cabinets and raised-panel doors. Painting is the most common way to modernize them.

South Jordan, Herriman, Riverton, Draper and Bluffdale are mostly newer. There it is usually about updating builder-grade finishes, or going two-tone with a painted island.
